Daniele Catalucci is group leader at Humanitas Research Hospital, where he leads the Signal Transduction in Cardiac Pathologies Lab. He is also research director at the Institute of Genetic and Biomedical Research (IRGB) of the National Research Council (CNR) in Milan.

Daniele Catalucci graduated from the University of Rome “Roma Tre” in 1999 and received his PhD in molecular and cellular biology from the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” in 2003. Supported by a Marie Curie Outgoing International Fellowship, he performed his postdoctoral studies at the Department of Medicine, University of California San Diego, USA. By the end of 2007, Catalucci moved back to Italy, in Milan, where he started his own research group at the Institute of Biomedical Technologies of the National Research Council (ITB-CNR) in collaboration with the IRCCS Multimedica Hospital. In 2009, he became a tenured scientist at the Institute of Genetic and Biomedical Research (IRGB) of CNR and in 2012 his laboratory moved to the Humanitas Research Hospital. In 2020, he became research director at IRGB.

Catalucci’s research focus on the molecular mechanisms for the regulation of cardiac muscle contraction, based on calcium handling and signal transduction, and the development of innovative therapeutic solutions based on biomimetic nanoparticles for cardiac-specific drug delivery.

His research is funded / has been funded by competitive grants from the Italian Ministry of Health, the Italian Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation, the Italian Ministry of Research, and the European Union. The latter funded the CUPIDO H2020 research project, with Catalucci as coordinator of the scientific consortium.
