Carmelo Carlo-Stella is full professor of Hematology at Humanitas University, where he is director of the Postgraduate School of Hematology, and he is the head of the Lymphoid Malignancies and Cancer Therapeutics Unit of Humanitas Research Hospital, where he also leads the Cancer Experimental Therapies Lab.

Carlo-Stella received its medical degree com laude from the University of Pavia in 1981 and he completed his training with a residency in Internal Medicine at the same university in 1986, before further specializing with a residency in Hematology at the University of Parma, completed in 1993.

From December 1999 to June 2011, Carlo-Stella has worked as a physician and research fellow at the Oncohematology Unit at the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale Tumori in Milan, where he also served (from 2005 to 2011) as the Director of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Manipulation Unit. From 2006 to 2016, he was appointed as associate professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Milan. In 2011, he moved to Humanitas Research Hospital, where he currently is chief of the Lymphoid Malignancies and Cancer Therapeutics Unit and clinical group leader of the Cancer Experimental Therapies Lab. Since January 2017 he is full professor of Hematology at Humanitas University.

His research activity is focused on translational projects aimed at: early phase preclinical and clinical development of molecularly targeted agents or monoclonal antibodies (naked, drug-conjugated, bispecific) for the treatment of relapsed/refractory lymphoma; the pharmacological targeting of tumor microenvironment in lymphoma; the optimization of the clinical management of lymphoma patients using the liquid biopsy and circulating tumor DNA.

As of March 2023, he has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles in journals covered by the JCR®, with an h-index of 42, according to Scopus.
