Sara Lovisa is a junior group leader at Humanitas Research Hospital, where she leads the Plasticity, Fibrosis and Cancer Lab.

Dr. Lovisa completed her master degree in Medical Biotechnology from the University of Padova in 2008 and obtained her PhD in Clinical Science and Technology from the University of Udine in 2012, while working in Dr. Gustavo Baldassarre’s laboratory at CRO National Cancer Institute (Aviano, PN). In 2013 she joined Dr. Raghu Kalluri’s laboratory at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston) for her post-doctoral training, where she specialized in tissue fibrosis and tumor microenvironment.

In 2020 she returned to Italy and joined Humanitas with the initial support of a fellowship from the Umberto Veronesi Foundation. In 2021 she was awarded a fellowship from the European Union Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action and a Start-Up Grant from the Italian Association for Cancer Research (AIRC) thanks to which she set up her own laboratory focused on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms governing the interaction between chronic inflammation, tissue fibrosis and cancer development.
