Dr. Giulia Rizzo, graduated in 2016 in Experimental and Applied Biology with a Molecular Biomedical Sciences curriculum, and achieved her PhD in Molecular and Experimental Medicine in 2023.

2014 to 2017 – She performed her internship and worked as research fellow in Molecular Cardiology Lab at Istituti Clinici Scientifici Maugeri in Pavia, studying different gene therapy approaches in in vitro and in vivo models of Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (CPVT) and performing genomic studies to evaluate the founder effect in families affected by inherited cardiovascular disease in isolated populations in the Italian region.

2017 to 2019 – She worked as research fellow at IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, Milan in the Division of Immunology, Transplantation and Infectious Diseases and Infection and cystic fibrosis Unit, working on the role of IL-17s/IL-17Rs axis during chronic respiratory disease associated with acute and chronic infection mediated by nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

2019 to 2022 – She completed her PhD program in Molecular and Experimental Medicine at Humanitas University, in the Gastrointestinal immunopathology Unit. Her research projects were focused on studying the role of the diet in the complications associated to Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) and promoting progression of colorectal cancer.  She developed skills to use patient-derived xenografts as a novel approach to explore differential responses to diet dependent on genotypic or phenotypic characteristics of colorectal cancer.

2023 to current – she works as a Post-Doc in the Gastrointestinal immunopathology Unit, where she is investigating the role of lipid metabolism in promoting intestinal fibrosis and the mechanisms underlying the impaired mucosal healing in IBD.
