Rebecca Favaro graduated in Biology-Molecular Biology at Università degli Studi of Milan and obtained her PhD in 1998 at the School of Biotechnology Application (SAB) of Università degli Studi of Milan. She has been a postdoc fellow at the Università degli Studi di Milano, at the IFOM Istitute and IEO Institute, at the Università degli Studi Milano-Bicocca. Since her master degree and PhD degree, her work was based on gene regulation: microbial catabolic operon and RNA turnover, gene involved in plant ovule and flower development. For 12 years she focused her study on mouse brain neural development with the generation of Sox2 conditional knock out mouse model that allowed the-in vivo and in vitro-study of the role of this gene in neural development and neural stem cell maintenance. Conditional knockout Sox2 mouse models was also used to study melanoma, medulloblastoma and oligodendroglioma tumors. In 2016 she joined the “Immunity world” studying the role of T-cells in immune-mediate skin disease.

In May 2016, she moved to Humanitas University under the guide of Professor Antonio Costanzo and set up the laboratory of Skin Pathology, where she leaded projects on: Epigenetic roadmap of keratinocytes in drug response; New strategies for diagnostic, therapeutic and clinical care in Skin immunological diseases: LL37 abridges skin inflammation and autoimmunity in Psoriasis Italian Ministry of Health funding; EU INNODERM and WINTHER project to evaluate the robustness of the new optoacoustic mesoscopy RSMO technology in imaging of skin, in collaboration with TUM in Munich; COVISKIN – Cariplo funding – to evaluate how the use of biologics can impact the COVID19 infection in Psoriatic and Atopic Dermatitis patients; EU-IMI ImmUNIVERSE project for a better control and treatment of immune-mediated diseases by exploring the universe of microenvironment imposed tissue signatures and their correlates in liquid biopsies.
